The service will open with scripture readings & a message that applies themes of sin, mortality, & redemption along with God's forgiveness, grace, & the hope of salvation setting the tone for the Lenten season of preparation leading up to Easter.

The imposition of ashes, when the pastor makes the sign of the cross on parishioners' foreheads with ashes, will take place. The ashes symbolize penance, mortality, & the need for repentance.
